> Index of every page on this site: [llms.txt](https://nuxtseo.com/llms.txt)

::key-takeaways
- Search Console is your source of truth for indexing and search performance; data can take [a few days to appear](https://gscdump.com/learn-google-search-console/limits/data-delay) for a newly added property, not a fixed 48 hours.
- Google's Generative AI performance report (Performance > Generative AI, shipped June 2026) now tracks AI Overview and AI Mode impressions directly in Search Console, though it doesn't report clicks or queries yet.
- If enhanced measurement tracks history events, GA4 can record createWebHistory route changes. Verify one page_view per navigation in DebugView.
- Upgrade to paid tools (Ahrefs, [SEMrush](https://semrush.com)) only once revenue justifies the cost; free tools cover most sites for months.

After launch, track traffic, keyword rankings, and technical issues with the tools below.

## Start with Free Tools

### [Google Search Console](https://nuxtseo.com/learn-seo/vue/launch-and-listen/search-console)

[Search Console](https://search.google.com/search-console) shows you what Google sees. Add your property, verify ownership, submit your sitemap, and check back in a few days for data.

Track these metrics:

- **Impressions** - how many times your pages appeared in search
- **Clicks** - actual traffic from Google
- **Average position** - where you rank for queries
- **Generative AI performance** - AI Overview and AI Mode impressions, tracked in a dedicated report Google shipped in June 2026 (see below)
- **Coverage errors** - pages Google can't index

Check the Performance report weekly. Investigate pages with high impressions but low clicks. Consider query intent, position, search appearance, title, and snippet.

GSC's UI export [truncates to 1,000 representative rows](https://gscdump.com/learn-google-search-console/limits/export-row-limits), hiding the long tail. The API allows more per request with pagination, and [Bulk Data Export to BigQuery](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/12919797) has no row cap at all. For a ready-made pipeline without touching BigQuery, [gscdump.com](https://gscdump.com) OAuths into your property and mirrors the raw daily data.

### GA4 for Organic Traffic

Google Analytics 4 tracks user behavior and traffic sources. If enhanced measurement has history-event tracking enabled, it can [record History API route changes](https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/ga4/single-page-applications). Choose Vue Router's history mode explicitly. Hash routing or custom screen transitions can require different measurement.

### Manual Tracking (Optional)

If automatic history tracking does not fit your routing, follow [Google's current SPA measurement guide](https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/ga4/single-page-applications). Choose one pageview mechanism. Do not combine manual events and automatic history pageviews.

Use DebugView to verify one page_view per navigation. Check page_location and page_referrer against the preceding route. The guide above covers custom events and Tag Manager setups.

### Track Organic Traffic

Go to **Reports > Acquisition > Traffic acquisition** in GA4. Filter by `sessionDefaultChannelGroup == Organic Search` to see traffic from search engines. This includes engines beyond Google.

Link GA4 to Search Console for keyword data. Navigate to **Admin > Property Settings > Product links > Search Console links**. Data appears within a few days of linking. Expect the two to disagree: GSC counts clicks and GA4 counts sessions, so [the numbers never match exactly](https://gscdump.com/learn-google-search-console/limits/gsc-vs-ga4).

## Real User Monitoring (RUM)

Lighthouse measures performance under controlled test conditions, locally or remotely. RUM measures performance for real users.

Core Web Vitals are judged at the 75th percentile (p75) of real-user field data, over a rolling 28-day window. Google uses Core Web Vitals in its ranking systems. Good scores do not guarantee high rankings. Check mobile and desktop field data separately.

- **[Vercel Speed Insights](https://vercel.com/docs/speed-insights)**: check the current plan and event limits
- **[Datadog RUM](https://www.datadoghq.com/product/real-user-monitoring/)**: enterprise-grade monitoring

Monitor these metrics weekly:

- p75 LCP (target: ≤ 2.5s)
- p75 INP (target: ≤ 200ms)
- p75 CLS (target: ≤ 0.1)

For context, the [2025 Web Almanac](https://almanac.httparchive.org/en/2025/performance) found only 48% of mobile origins (56% desktop) pass all three metrics, and LCP fails most often.

## Privacy-Focused Alternatives

Choose analytics that fits your data needs and privacy requirements. Plausible offers a cookieless option. Consent duties depend on your deployment and jurisdiction. Check your provider documentation and applicable requirements.

Copy the site-specific snippet from [Plausible installation settings](https://plausible.io/docs/plausible-script). Put it in your HTML head. Use Plausible's installation test before assuming it collects visits. Test both direct loads and client route changes.

Dashboard shows:

- Real-time visitors
- Top pages and sources
- Referrers and countries
- Bounce rate and time on page

Check [Plausible pricing](https://plausible.io/pricing) for current plans. Self-hosting has separate operational costs.

## Paid Tools (When You Need More)

Choose a tool when it answers a question your current reports cannot answer.

### When to Upgrade

Upgrade when you hit these signals:

- Traffic plateaus after 6 months
- Competitors outrank you for target keywords
- You need backlink data to build authority
- Manual SEO audits take too long

Start with Search Console and analytics. Compare paid plans when you need a specific feature. Check limits and cost against your actual workload.

### Ahrefs

[Ahrefs](https://ahrefs.com/) offers backlink and keyword research tools. Check the current plan's data coverage and refresh cadence. Evaluate its results for your site before relying on a comparison. [Current plans](https://ahrefs.com/pricing) define costs and limits.

### SEMrush

[SEMrush](https://www.semrush.com/) offers keyword, advertising, and local-search tools. Choose the features you need, then check the [current plans](https://www.semrush.com/pricing/) and usage limits. No one plan is best for every site.

### Screaming Frog

[Screaming Frog](https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/) crawls your site like Googlebot. Find broken links, duplicate content, missing meta tags, and redirect chains.

Check the [current license and limits](https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/) before choosing a crawl plan.

Run audits monthly. Fix issues before Google does.

### Nuxt SEO Pro

[Nuxt SEO Pro](https://nuxtseo.com/pro) reads Search Console metrics for your registered host. Use its indexing and search evidence alongside the source reports. Check the current product documentation before relying on a specific provider integration.

## Tracking AI Search Traffic

Use the [Generative AI performance report](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2026/06/gen-ai-performance-reports) in Search Console for AI Overview and AI Mode impressions by page, country, and device. Google completed the rollout on August 31, 2026. The dedicated report covers impressions, not clicks or queries, so for actual traffic from AI engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, [Perplexity](https://perplexity.ai)) you need to watch analytics for indirect signals instead.

::note
Ignore older posts describing a "Search Appearance > AI Overviews filter": Google's John Mueller confirmed no such filter ever existed.
::

**How to spot AI traffic:**

1. **High Impressions, Low Clicks**: if a page has huge impressions in GSC but low CTR, it might be appearing in AI Overviews where users get the answer without clicking; the free [zero-click query finder](https://gscdump.com/tools/zero-click) lists these queries from your own GSC data
2. **Direct/Referral Spikes**: traffic from [ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com) or Perplexity often shows as Direct or Referral (`chatgpt.com` referral). [OpenAI](https://openai.com) runs [three separate bots](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/bots): GPTBot for training, OAI-SearchBot for its search index, and ChatGPT-User for live fetches when a user asks about your site; ChatGPT-User records a user-triggered fetch. It does not prove a browser visit to your site
3. **Zero-Click Searches**: use a dedicated AI visibility tool like [Brand24's AI Visibility](https://brand24.com/ai-visibility/) to track your share of voice across ChatGPT, Claude, [Gemini](https://gemini.google.com), and Perplexity

## What to Track Weekly

Monitor these metrics every Monday:

**From Search Console:**

- Total clicks (is traffic growing?)
- AI Overview and AI Mode impressions (how often did your pages appear?)
- Coverage errors (new indexing issues?)
- Core Web Vitals (any pages failing?)

**From GA4 or Plausible:**

- Organic sessions (week-over-week change)
- Top landing pages (which content performs?)
- Bounce rate (are users finding what they need?)

**From Ahrefs/SEMrush (if paid):**

- Keyword rankings (any big drops?)
- New backlinks (who linked to you?)
- Competitor rankings (are they gaining ground?)

Don't obsess over daily fluctuations; rankings shift constantly, and weekly trends matter more.

## Setting Up Alerts

Alerts catch problems before you lose traffic.

### Search Console Alerts

Search Console emails you automatically for:

- Manual actions (penalties)
- Security issues (hacked site)
- Critical coverage errors

Add team members in **Settings > Users and permissions** so they get alerts too.

### GA4 Custom Alerts

Create alerts for traffic drops. Go to **Admin > Custom insights** and set conditions:

- If `Sessions from Organic Search` decreases by 30% week-over-week, send email
- If `Conversions` drops by 50%, alert immediately

Catch issues the day they happen, not two weeks later.

If your site goes down, Search Console won't tell you. Use [Checkly](https://www.checklyhq.com/) to check every 5 minutes and get SMS alerts when your site breaks.

Using Nuxt? Nuxt adds [built-in analytics modules](https://nuxt.com/modules?category=Analytics) and automatic sitemap generation. Read the [Nuxt SEO Monitoring guide](https://nuxtseo.com/learn-seo/nuxt/launch-and-listen) for framework-specific setup.
